Visit of Members from George Brown College, Toronto, Canada, from 17th -18th January, 2011
Members of the George Brown College in Toronto, Canada, lead by Mr. Jose Balcaceres, Associate Director, Partnerships and International Recruitment visited the Institute of Apparel Management (IAM), Gurgaon, from 17th-18th January, 2011. On the 17th of January, the purpose of the visit was to have a general session of introductions and a meeting with Dr. Koshy, DG and CEO, IAM &ATDC, Mr. Somesh Singh, Joint-Director, IAM and Mr. R.S. Kataria, Registrar, IAM and all faculty members. The meeting was followed by a campus visit, to see the wonderful lab facilities that are offered by IAM to its students to assist in pattern cutting, sewing, garment construction, TUKATech facilities, a pattern plotter, IT facilities and software’s offered to aid designing. Further the GBC team was impressed to see the Knowledge Resource Management Centre (KMRC) that offers updated fashion forecasts, magazines, books, and all tools to abet the design and fashion process, with additional support and network for management students as well. On the 18th of January, Ms. Joan Reynolds, Manager International Partnerships, and Ms. Miriam Baichman, Professor and English Language specialist, both from GBC, held a workshop to evaluate the English language skills of students belonging to the Fashion & Lifestyle Design Program and Fashion and Textile Merchandising Program, courses that are connected to the International pathway of IAM, via Edexcel. More specifically, the GBC evaluation addressed the following areas with the help of an audio-visual presentation for:
- Note taking
- Writing skills
- Group work
- Speaking skills
- Listening skills
A group of nearly 35 students participated in this workshop at Gurgaon. The GBC team was highly impressed by the knowledge, standard of expression and enthusiasm of the participating students and valued the work done by them. A similar workshop was also held for nearly 20 students belonging to the Fashion & Lifestyle Design Program at Mumbai on the 25th of January, 2011. A similar response was obtained from them as well. Overall the GBC team was appreciative of the sincere effort that is being made by IAM to run its various courses with élan and contribute earnestly towards the development of its students.
