Message of Dr. Darlie Koshy, DG & CEO, IAM
AEPC’s foray into Education & Training commenced with the setting up of the Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) in early 90’s and later the Institute of Apparel Management (IAM) in 2007. The Education & Training initiatives have been given a new thrust in the recent times so that E&T become a vital function of AEPC complimenting its widely known promotional role. Keeping a futuristic outlook, the vision and strategies of the Institute of Apparel Management have been recast and aligned in a global context. The Institute of Apparel Management (IAM) has been set up to impart high quality education for shaping a new cadre of “work place ready” professionals for both export & domestic sectors. The premier Institute is being positioned as a “Multi-varsity for apparel industry” offering a bouquet of contemporary Career-oriented programmes. Being industry supported and with strong linkages in textile, apparel, accessory exports and domestic industries, the internships and placements including classroom assignments will have considerable support from the members of Apparel Industry.
The Institute is offering for 2010-11 Academic Session two UG Programmes viz. Fashion & Lifestyle Design and Fashion & Textiles Merchandising and two PG Programmes viz. Apparel Marketing & Merchandising and Fashion Design & Management with different pathways for validated diplomas / degrees from international pathways of IAM. With the recent tie-up with IGNOU, IAM is all set to offer Indian Pathways to its potential students by offering UG/PG programmes through IAM-IGNOU Fashion & Design Management Center. The IAM has strong international linkages having carefully chosen the international partners; BTEC, HND through Edexcel UK for providing validation for UG programmes which is a window to several universities around the world is an important partner for UG programmes apart from RMIT,Melbourne,Australia. Being a learner-centric Institute, the students can opt for different options through IAM including George Brown College – Toronto - Canada, Wolver Hampton – UK, Ontario College of Art and Design – Toronto - Canada etc. For PG programmes. IAM is in a position to offer placements to its students as the Institute is supported by the entire Apparel industry and they value the students who are passing out of both IAM and the network of ATDCs. The careers and opportunities are today not only in manufacturing but also in the services associated with Apparel, Fashion, and Luxury & Retail industries. Fashion is transforming itself to encompass lifestyle and experiences and the fashion merchandise is today enriched by the context of lifestyles and the retail delivery modes across the world. Indian apparel industry has become part of a Global Supply Chain and Indian Fashion Industry is redefining its role in the new context around the globe. The new challenges call for a new genre of professionals, I am sure would redefine the horizon of Indian apparel and fashion industry, in the coming years. IAM is a millennium institute and its campuses are located in two millennium cities, Gurgaon (NCR) & Navi Mumbai (Sanpada). The future beckons you: you can shape your dreams and ambitions at IAM.
